The Wet Engine: Exploring the Mad Wild Miracle of the Heart by Brian Doyle
The birth of essayist Doyle’s son with a severe heart defect prompted this collection of essays related to family, occupation, spirituality, and life, with the heart appearing as the collection’s unifying theme. The essays range from an in-depth profile of the pediatric surgeon that worked on his son to physiological descriptions of the heart while working. In between, Doyle explores how his son’s medical issues impacted their family and his Catholic faith.
Brian Doyle in a fantastic speaker and has done programs at the library before. We’re delighted to welcome him back for the finale of Orem Reads on November 14 at 7:00pm in the Storytelling Wing.
