An Innocent Soldier by Josef Holub
Adam is a16-year-old farmhand forced into Napoleon’s army in place of the farmer’s 18-year-old son. The wretched forced march of the world’s largest army into Russia without adequate food, shelter, clothing, or even water, is seen through the eyes of one of the most insignificant soldiers. But even the worst circumstances are made better when Adam comes to serve an aristocratic lieutenant not much older than himself. The two of them help one another survive amid almost inconceivable hardship and against terrible odds.
