Young Annie learns about the horrors of World War I through the suffering and stories of wounded soldiers recovering in a veterans’ hospital near her small Kansas hometown.  Annie, who has lost a much loved uncle during the recent war, learns the real story of his death, and comes to a better understanding of the world outside her comfortable life.  Author Rostkowski is an elementary teacher in Ogden, and this, her first novel, won multiple awards in Utah and across the nation.
