The Arrival

content.chilifresh-8The Arrival by Shaun Tan

This intriguing story of a family’s migration is told in a wordless graphic novel format. A shadow in the first outdoor scene is a hint that the setting is not in this world. After a few page turns, it is obvious that the man has left his family in search of a new life for them in an intriguing alien place. The sense of intrigue is deepened when the reader is shown memories of horrific events in the past. This marvelous book is ultimately a celebration of the human spirit. The migrant’s journey evokes feelings of compassion as the fears, wonders, and joys of his journey unfold.
