We all like to come to the library for the books, but not everyone knows that we also do rotating art shows in two areas of the North Wing. Our current large show is a series of photographs from the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival and Conference, held every year at Mt. Timpanogos Park and in various locations throughout Orem and Provo. The Festival is a partnership between the Timpanogos Storytelling Institute and Orem City, and features many renowned storytellers, workshops, and programs for people of all ages. The show will run through September 5 (the Festival and Conference will take place the week of August 29-September 3).
Our small show is a display of art made by children and library patrons who attended the art carnival that the library held in June as part of our children’s summer reading program. The theme of this year’s summer reading was “Train Your Brain,” tying into the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, and kids used a variety of artistic techniques, including spray bottles, stencils, rolling tennis balls and wind-up toys, and collage materials to create a gold medal-worthy work of art. Each piece will be on display for two weeks. The current collection went up July 12, and new pieces from the carnival will be hung on July 26.
