Summer Reading Highlights

We finished up our summer reading programs this week! This year’s theme was the 2016 Summer Olympics, and our programs focused on the importance of physical and mental health as well as the cultural, historical, and aesthetic value of athletic performance and the Olympic games. Our goal was to encourage children and teens to become informed about how their choices affect their physical and mental well-being and to begin creating and maintaining healthy lifetime habits at an early age.

Here’s a look at some of the highlights from our programs, which included a literary Olympics of book-based games, a biking workshop, an art carnival, a chat with two-time Olympic marathoner and long distance runner Ed Eyestone, a yoga/nutrition class, and a Samba Fogo lesson for teens, and a mini-Olympics, a yoga/nutrition class, a capoeira demonstration, a visit from the Orem Fire department, and a performance from Wasatch Ballet for kids.
