Staff Favorites: The Royal We

the-royal-weThe Royal We, Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

On April 29, 2011, I got up at 4:00 in the morning to watch Prince William marry Kate Middleton. I stand by that decision. I am not ashamed.

I even watched the deeply terrible Lifetime movie William and Kate. I do regret that decision.

I also have to confess that I was emotionally invested enough to feel disappointed when Prince George was born because I wanted the baby to be a girl and for her to be born on my birthday. Alas, George is a he, and he came two days too late to be my birthday twin. Life is hard sometimes.

The point of all this is that I’m one of those shameless people who are stupidly fascinated by the royal family. Fortunately, I am not alone. Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, who normally blog on the celebrity fashion site Go Fug Yourself, released The Royal We last year. The book is essentially thinly veiled William and Kate fan fiction. There are some significant changes – the protagonist, Bex, is an American studying at Oxford instead of a Brit studying at Saint Andrews – but much of the story is similar. If you too have misspent time on the internet reading about famous royal skiing trips or the design of Catherine’s wedding ensemble, you’ll enjoy the overlapping details the authors snuck in. Even if you haven’t, this is a fluffy, sometimes snarky read perfect for lovers of chick lit. – Shaina
