The Princess Diarist, Carrie Fisher
After discovering her journals from the filming of the first Star Wars film, Carrie Fisher decided it was time to reveal what happened on set and behind the scenes. The entries with Carrie’s commentary chronicle the 19-year-old Carrie in all her naivete and vulnerable glory. Funny and raw, Carrie’s musings reveal the wit and humor of the star herself as well as insightful commentary on her iconic level of celebrity.
When I heard that Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford had an affair on the set of A New Hope, I decided I must read this. What can I say? I have no shame. And while it does tell the story of their 3-month fling, it is more about 19-year-old Carrie’s inexperience and isolation overseas on a mostly male film set and how playing Princess Leia completely changed her life from that point on. The writing is as sharp as her wit, and just as I was getting to know Carrie, she was gone. Definitely worth the read if for the crazy fan stories alone. – Holly Grierson, Circulation
