If you’re a smart, creative, book-loving teen who enjoys planning teen programs, doing behind-the-scenes library work, and hanging out with other cool teens, come and join our Teen Library Council! The TLC meets every month on the second Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the Media Auditorium. Recently, we asked all of our TLC members to share their favorite books with us. Here are their responses:
The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann: In a society that purges thirteen-year-olds who are creative, identical twins Aaron and Alex are separated, one to attend University while the other, supposedly Eliminated, finds himself in a wondrous place where youths hone their abilities and learn magic.
The Selection by Kiera Cass: Sixteen-year-old America Singer is living in the caste-divided nation of Illéa, which formed after the war that destroyed the United States. America is chosen to compete in the Selection–a contest to see which girl can win the heart of Illéa’s prince–but all she really wants is a chance for a future with her secret love, Aspen, who is a caste below her.
Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick: Having lost his mother and his hearing in a short time, twelve-year-old Ben leaves his Minnesota home in 1977 to seek the father he never knew in New York City, and meets there Rose, who is also longing for something missing from her life. Ben’s story is told in words; Rose’s in pictures.
The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling: Rescued from the outrageous neglect of his aunt and uncle, a young boy with a great destiny proves his worth while attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The Soldiers of Halla (Pendragon #10) by D. J. MacHale: Each of the Travelers returns home to learn the truth about their origins before being reunited for a final, inevitable confrontation with Saint Dane, whose efforts to control Halla are destroying its very foundations.
