Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman
Like the sea and the mind, this book is beautiful and frightening. The struggle with mental illness is very real and this book approaches that struggle in a uniquely honest way. It takes the reader on an up-close journey into the mind of Caden, a 15-year-old boy struggling with schizophrenia and psychosis. Shusterman has managed to craft a world where reality and fiction twist and turn round each other with such intricate spirals that, like Caden, the reader may find themselves questioning what is real and, perhaps more importantly, what they believe is real. This book captivated me with its beautiful language and gems of thought provoking truth. A wonderful journey from beginning to end.
