Join us for a special film screening examining the life of civil rights activist Joan Trumpauer Mulholland, a Freedom Rider who participated in over three dozen sit-ins and protests by the time she was nineteen years old. Mulholland’s path crossed with some of the biggest names in civil rights history, including Martin Luther King, Jr., Medgar Evers, Robert F. Kennedy, John Lewis, Diane Nash, Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, and Harry Belafonte, to name a few. For her actions she was disowned by her family, attacked, put on death row, and hunted by the Ku Klux Klan. She was recently recognized along with other Freedom Riders by President Barack Obama and she has received numerous awards and recognition for her work in the civil rights movement, including Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.’s Annual Award of Honor and the Anti-Defamation League Annual Heroes Against Hate Award. She is a highly sought-after speaker, having presented to universities, government organizations, the US Congressional Luncheon, and the United Nations.
